How to Improve Student Learning by Gathering the Right Kinds of Evidence and Taking the Best Next Steps
Gathering evidence of student learning and deciding on next steps is integral to student learning. I remember watching my son practice crossovers in hockey when he was young. He was clearly doing it wrong and not one coach came over to give him feedback, show him what he was doing wrong and watch to see that he understood and could practice it correctly. I was so frustrated watching him practice it wrong over and over. This is what happens to our students when we set them off to work but don’t watch to see how they are doing and provide meaningful next steps to help them get closer to the goal.
Here are 4 things (and tools) to consider when gathering evidence of student learning and providing next steps to improve that learning.

Remember to gather evidence of student learning based on the success criteria and do something with that evidence. Student learning will improve immediately!
